New Delhi: The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) have exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to institutionalize a mechanism for sharing relevant data for the development and strengthening of the Statistical Business Register (SBR).
The MoU will facilitate a structured framework for sharing relevant information from the Udyam Registration ecosystem of the Ministry of MSME with MoSPI.
The information is expected to contribute to improving the coverage, consistency and reliability of business information used for statistical purposes.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, and Dr. Dalip Singh, Additional Director General, MoSPI, in the presence of senior officers from the Ministry of MSME and MoSPI.
Objectives of the MoU
The agreement sets out the terms and understanding between the Ministry of MSME and MoSPI regarding the sharing of unit-wise data from the Udyam Registration ecosystem available with the MSME Department through APIs.
Under the MoU, the two-way API mechanism will provide data for the preparation of the National Statistical Business Register (NSBR). This mechanism is intended to establish a structured approach to data sharing between the two ministries.
The Statistical Business Register framework will also enable relevant information from the Udyam Registration ecosystem of the Ministry of MSME to be shared with MoSPI.
According to the ministries, this information will contribute to improving the coverage, consistency and reliability of business information used for statistical purposes.
Statistical Business Register: An Overview
The Statistical Business Register (SBR) is a central and regularly updated database of registered statistical units engaged in economic activities within a defined geographical territory.
The Statistical Business Register captures businesses, enterprises, establishments and other relevant economic units, along with key characteristics of these economic units and relationships between different units.
The SBR serves as foundational infrastructure for the economic statistics system. It is designed to improve the coverage, consistency and reliability of business information by identifying the target population for economic surveys.
The Statistical Business Register also supports survey sample selection and enables the production of business demography statistics. It provides a common framework for business demography-related information and facilitates integration and consistency across different data sources.
Udyam Registration Data and National Statistical Business Register
The MoU between the Ministry of MSME and MoSPI establishes a mechanism for using relevant unit-wise data available through the Udyam Registration ecosystem for statistical purposes.
Through the two-way API mechanism, the shared data will support the preparation of the National Statistical Business Register. The framework is aimed at strengthening the availability and consistency of business information for the economic statistics system.
The development and strengthening of the Statistical Business Register will therefore involve structured data sharing between the two ministries, with information from the Udyam Registration ecosystem contributing to the statistical database.
The agreement also provides a framework for improving the quality and coverage of business information used in statistical activities, including economic surveys and business demography statistics.
